Purpose of this Lunch & Learn (April 26 12noon to 1pm):
Information session on the variety of leave at your disposal, how to use it and how to obtain management approval. To prepare, please take some time to review the leave sections of your AV Group Collective Agreement: http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/agreements-conventions/view-visualiser-eng.aspx?id=6, the National Joint Council Directives: http://www.njc-cnm.gc.ca/directive/en and the TBS Directive on Leave and Special Working Arrangements: http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pol/doc-eng.aspx?id=15774#. Please have some questions prepared for the session. The time you take to review these documents can be done during work hours since the documents are provided by your employer and as such assist management by giving you have the correct information when using your leave entitlements. Please see below for food and security information.
In addition:
Call to Members to re-establish a Victoria AV Subgroup! This requires your support to support Members on South Vancouver Island; at the PIPSC National level, the subgroup will seek to have South Vancouver Island AV Group Members needs/wants are heard by management and it will give us a louder voice in shaping future collective agreements.
Call to Members to volunteer to become Stewards!!! The time commitment for Stewardship is whatever you can manage and no more than that. PIPSC pays for training, travel to and from training and comprehensive support. Now more than ever the Members need new leadership and participating in union activities is a benefit to the employer. Please speak to me, be curious, this could be an important step in your career. There is a short application process, it takes a couple of weeks for approval: http://www.pipsc.ca/labour-relations/stewards/forms/steward-application-form. Once the application is approved, you will be invited to attend Steward Basic training which is offered every Spring and Fall by the Region, the next offering is November 2018: http://www.pipsc.ca/regions/bc-yukon/events?month=11-2018.
