  • Commented that OSB has been one of the most active branches among all 16 branches in NCR

The Financial Report covered the expenses from September 2016 AGM to this AGM.

We had similar level of funding as had last year. Net balance is of Sept 21 but more events and expenses are coming for 2017. New allocation will be determined by Dec 31, 2017.

  2. Guest Speaker -- Andrew Gize - PIPSC Service Plus

Spoke of the Service Plus program, which adds value to PIPSC memberships, while not costing but also offsetting members' annual dues with revenue of $4.5 million in past 15 years. Service plus program runs with 3 R's (Reduce, Recruit, and Retain), with an easy-to-use website. Described many of the products and vendors and the benefits and discounts to the members.   Provided a lot of useful information and drew much attention and interest of the delegates.

  1. Guest Speaker -- Allaudin Alibhai - President, AFS NCR IT Subgroup

Spoke of the AFS CS Subgroup bargaining focus - 2 issues: classification and pay. Informed the delegates that a great progress had been made and meeting was happening at the moment; hoped to reach a deal by end of next day (Friday, September 22, 2017).

  1. Report of the President – Madeline Blais

Itemized the list of events and activities since last AGM which can be found on PIPSC OSB website. In the planning stage of more activities for this fall and winter.

Summarized the rallies and efforts to stop Bill C-27 and multiple C-27 information sessions.

Thank you for attending union activities. Recommend members to check the PIPSC website. Please support your union rallies.

  • Greg again noted that OSB is one of the most active branches.
  • Thanks to OSB executives.
  • Continue the efforts to stop C-27: 13,100 post cards printed. Encouraged to send more cards and emails.  He attended the Steel workers convention in Hamilton and unions are supporting pensions for all.  Spoke of the Sears workers pensions.  Unions need to work together and protect all Canadians: Not going down but bring everyone up - keep the message strong until C-27 is officially dead.
  • Fix Phoenix system: Various union efforts pushing hard. Phoenix failure due to outsourcing to IBM after 700 HR employees were laid off right before Phoenix was rolled out. Check your pay stubs and report any problems. If any serious issue arise, call PIPSC to help, too.
