JLP Workshop for OHS Committee Members

Dear colleagues and friends,

The Health and Safety of our members is paramount to the delivery of the mandate of your Department/Agency and serve Canadians.

Following the most recent round of bargaining, PSAC and TBS negotiated to fund for a two-year period to provide JLP training tailored to the learning needs of OHS committees and representatives in the Federal Public Sector.  The workshop is entitled: Creating a Health, Safe, and Inclusive Culture; Training for Occupational Health and Safety Committee Members.

The content of the workshop was co-developed and piloted in 2022. Based on participant’s feedback, it was further enhanced in 2023. It meets the training requirements found under the National Joint Council OHS Directive.

The primary workshop objectives are:

  • Equip participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence that will enable them to make a positive contribution to their department’s OHS Committee.
  • Excite participants about the potential of OHS in shaping a healthy, safe and inclusive culture in the Federal Public Service.
  • Encourage participants to deepen their involvement in the OHS Community.

Participants will examine the legal framework and responsibilities of committees, such as responding to workplace accidents, inspecting workplaces, handling internal complaints, monitoring hazard prevention programs, prevention or violence and harassment, committee efficiency and, more. A unique Participant Guide which includes OHS reference material has been developed. It is a useful tool for participants during and after the training.

Trained JLP Facilitators with OHS knowledge and experience will co-facilitate the OHS workshops.

Multiple workshop dates and locations available

We are happy to invite you to consult the Joint Learning Program web site Training for Occupational Health and Safety Committees - Joint Learning Program as the online registration for the OHS workshop is now accessible for participants. More offerings will be added over the coming weeks.  It is free of cost for everyone serving on an OHS committee, regardless of their union!

I always welcome and appreciate feedback and suggestions from all our members. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.

Stay safe, stay well!

Respectfully,

Waheed Khan
