An equity analysis of the SP Group’s collective agreement identified part-time members as potentially experiencing work- and union-related issues differently from full-time members. As a result, the bargaining team is seeking to get feedback from members who work part-time.

Invitation to a Lunch and Learn event on the Employee Wellness and Support Program (EWSP)

Following the ratification of the tentative agreement, we’ve been working hard over the summer to finalize your contract.  The CFIA during this time had to obtain Governor in Council (Cabinet) approval, followed by translation and thorough review of the text by both parties.

We are pleased to advise that an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Training session is being offered on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue in Vancouver, B.C. The OHS Training session will be one day, starting at 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.  All participants are required to attend the full day.

Canadians who think it’s easier for the rich and corporations to avoid paying taxes have compelling new evidence to support their suspicions. Nine out of 10 Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) tax professionals surveyed by PIPSC agree “it is easier for corporations and wealthy individuals to evade and/or avoid tax responsibilities than it is for average Canadians.” That’s even more than the 79% of Canadians who agreed with the same statement in an Environics Research poll.

Labour Day is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. Labour Day has its origins in the union movement, specifically the eight hour work day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

On behalf of all PIPSC members, I’d like to express our support and encouragement to our fellow members and all of those currently affected by the ravages of the forest fires in British Columbia this summer.

Building on the tremendous solidarity established in the last round of negotiations, our 16 Treasury Board groups are busy preparing for a new round of bargaining that is scheduled to begin in the coming months. 

With our collective agreement expiring September 30, 2018, it is now time to bring the word “Bargaining” into our conversations. The Bargaining Team has met twice since the Bargaining Conference and wants to update you on our progress so far.

In accordance with By-Laws 20.3, 20.4, 21.4, and 21.5, there have been several changes in the composition of the Board of Directors due to a leave of absence and resignations. Sean O’Reilly, Acting Vice-President (Full-Time) while Shannon Bittman is on a leave of absence.

With some regret, the Institute has accepted Del Dickson’s resignation as NCR Director on the PIPSC Board of Directors. PIPSC would like to thank Mr. Dickson for his 5.5 years as NCR Director as well as his years as a dedicated Steward and Legacy Foundation Director and Champion.

I recently wrote to Michael Wernick, Clerk of the Privy Council, to express my concerns with his recent comments claiming it is difficult to fire public servants.

At our AV Group 2017 Annual General Meeting, a motion was approved 33 (yes) to 5 (no) that stated only regular members can hold office. See our Group By-Law 4.1.

Fellow Computer Systems members: The PIPSC HRM CS Sub-group will be participating in the Halifax and Dartmouth Labour Day rally, parade and picnic, Monday September 3rd. Keeping with tradition, the annual Labour Day Parade celebrates the strength and solidarity of workers.
