REPORT OF THE WORKING GROUP ON CONSULTATION
Presented to the 98th Annual General Meeting
I am pleased to report that the Consultation Group Presidents continue to work hard at improving consultation with the employers.
This year has been especially challenging with Phoenix having a large impact on a majority of our members employed in Federal Government. Consultation Teams have worked hard with PIPSC Staff, their Departments, and Elected Officials to help our members through this difficult time.
Additionally, Consultation Teams have been preparing for the new GC Workplace, Violence in the Workplace Policies, new Staffing Policies, changes in the implementation of the Official Languages Policy and the implementation of the new Mental Health Standard. All of these have had or will have major impacts on our member and teams are working hard to support our members.
We continue to work on making our teams more efficient by sharing success stories and best practices and I have been impressed with the level of participation by all the Consultation Presidents in our meetings.
Consultation Teams will now begin the enormous task of implementing some of the great work that has been done by our Bargaining Teams in the last round of bargaining. There were fantastic strides made in the areas of Scientific Integrity and Contracting Out. It will be up to Consultation Teams to ensure that we take advantage of this opportunity to make changes in our departments.
Planning has begun for the 2018 Consultation Symposium where we will bring together members of the various National Consultation Teams for training and development with the goal of strengthening PIPSC consultation throughout government.
As Stewards or Members, I encourage you to get involved with Consultation in your department. It provides a fantastic opportunity to have a positive effect on our members’ lives by improving their work place.
In solidarity,
Craig Bradley
Chair, Working Group on Consultation
