2015 CFIA-IN Group Bursary
The draw for the 2015 CFIA-IN bursaries took place on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2016. The names of all eligible applicants were placed in a container and names were randomly chosen.
We are pleased to announce the First draw for $500: Winner: Don Kenny’s son, Karol-André. The second draw for $250: Winner: Winnie Zhang’s son, Jonathan.
If you have any questions regarding the CFIA-IN bursary, please contact one of the Executive members.
2016 CFIA-IN Group Bursary
It is now time to send your entries for the annual bursary. Eligible applicants are children of Regular/Retired members in good standing or of members who were in good standing at time of death, as long as the member is part of the IN Group or was part of the IN Group at the time of death. Children of RAND deductees are NOT eligible.
Applicants may enter any year of post-secondary education, in a full-time post-secondary program at an educational institution. This institution must be a member of the AUCC or AICC and includes CÉGEPs.
Eligible applicants must offer the CFIA-IN Executive the following information:
- Proof of attendance at an accepted post-secondary educational institution for the Winter 2016 Semester.
Please note that proof of attendance is not required in order to apply for this scholarship. However, the winner will be required to submit his proof of attendance before the bursary is handed out.
All entries must be received by end of day, March 29th, 2017. Entries can be sent by e-mail to one of the Executive members listed above.
The draw will take place at this year’s AGM. The names of all eligible applicants will be placed in a container and a name will be randomly chosen. The winning names may be included in a future CFIA-IN newsletter.
BARGAINING
As you all are aware, our Collective Agreement expired May 31, 2014, and thus we have filed our intent to once again return to the bargaining table to negotiate a new contract. During the AGM this year our negotiator, Denise Doherty, will be on hand to discuss the current state of negotiations and answer questions.
STEWARDS
While there is a pressing need for new members on the Executive, there is a bigger need for members to become Stewards. Considering the growth in the number of CSs, we are seeking more volunteers for Stewards in the regions. Training is provided by PIPSC for those who wish to step up and become involved.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
You are all invited to attend the CFIA-IN Group’s next Annual General Meeting in March. We hope that many of you will be able to attend. Please take some time out of your busy schedule to attend, as many issues will be discussed. You will have a chance to meet the current Executive and voice your opinion on the different issues and possibly help shape the new Executive.
When: Thursday, March 30th, 2017, Noon until 1:00 pm
Where: Centurion Centre (170 Colonnade Rd, Ottawa, ON)
Although all members of the CFIA-IN Group are invited to attend, note that no transportation or accommodation expenses are paid to attend a Group Annual General Meeting. A hot lunch will be served.
As we did last year, it is our intention to link in our regional members via video conferencing and/or teleconference. Details on these services will be made available prior to the AGM for those desiring them.
There will be sign-up sheets at Skyline Campus and Camelot Campus for the AGM. If you don’t have access to the sign-up sheet, please e-mail one of the Executive members.
Additionally, members unable to attend in person, but interested in dialing in to the AGM should advise a member of the Executive by Wednesday, March 28, 2017.
We look forward to welcoming you at this event!
ELECTION CALL!
It is election time again and we are looking for interested members to get on board and help make a difference for the next few years. It is extremely important that some new members stand for election as members of the current Executive may not be continuing beyond their current term. Unless some new candidates step forward you may be without a union Executive in the future. Whether you are interested in a higher profile position or would prefer to just be involved in meetings and decisions affecting the IN Group, you are welcome to submit your name. Elected members to the CFIA-IN Executive select their officers by an internal vote as to who holds which office.
The Executive positions are as follows:
President Vice-President Treasurer Secretary Communications Officer Member-at-Large (2)
In accordance with PIPSC and CFIA-IN Group Constitutions and By-Laws, elections for the CFIA-IN Group Executive will be held to elect an Executive to hold office for a term of two (2) years starting one month after the ballots are counted. Each candidate must be nominated by two members of the CFIA-IN Group in good standing (not a RAND deductee). Candidates must indicate the area in which they currently work and are encouraged to provide a brief biographical sketch. Should an election be required, this information is to be printed and mailed, together with the ballots, to the membership.
If you wish to become a candidate for the CFIA-IN Group Executive, please advise a member of the current executive no later than 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on March 29, 2017.
