Your PIPSC MP Bargaining Team is pleased to share the details of Arbitrator Tremayne's arbitration award regarding the Bill 124 and Pandemic Pay reopeners.
Your bargaining team was successful in achieving additional pay increases, which will provide higher wages for all members on an ongoing basis and a one-time lump sum payment.
Rates of Pay
This award provides for the following financial increases to your rates of pay (in addition to the previously provided 1% per year):
- 1% Retroactive to July 1, 2019
- 0.75% Retroactive to July 1, 2020
- 2% Retroactive to July 1, 2021
One-Time Lump Sum Payment
Additionally, our full-time, part-time and casual members who were members of the bargaining unit as of August 13, 2020, and who did not receive pandemic pay under the government program will receive a one-time lump sum payment as follows:
- $1,750 for full-time members
- $1,250 for part-time members
- $750 for casual members
Payments are to be made within 60 days and will be less deductions required by law.
Members No Longer in the Bargaining Unit
Additionally, the parties agreed at the table to make any retroactive payments to former employees who were employed under the collective agreement from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2022, regardless of their current employment status.
The employer will contact such former members at their last known address within six pay periods, so please ensure that your information is up to date if this applies to you.
Former members will have a period of sixty days from the date of the notice to claim retroactivity and, if they fail to make a claim within sixty days, their claim will be deemed to be abandoned.
As other groups in the sector have been successful in securing higher wage increases in 2022 and beyond, this agreement sets a firm foundation for the negotiation of the new collective agreement, which will be effective from July 1, 2022.
Per the Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act, there will be no ratification vote, as this is an arbitration award ordered by Arbitrator Tremayne.
