PIPSC Vote on the PIPSC SUN-RT Group Tentative Agreement – April, 2021
Your PIPSC Bargaining Team is pleased to announce that on March 30, 2021 we signed a tentative agreement with the hospital to conclude this round of collective bargaining. The Bargaining Team would like to thank all members for their support and patience during this unique round of bargaining. We believe we have reached the best deal possible in what has provided very challenging circumstances for negotiations.
The Ford government’s Bill 124 imposed salary and compensation caps totaling one percent per year for the next three years of our collective agreement, including a ceiling of one percent on any increases to salary rates during each of these years. It is in this context that we entered into the current round of bargaining. Your bargaining team was committed to bring back the best possible agreement under the circumstances, and after 5 days of negotiations and 1 day of conciliation, we have reached an agreement that your committee unanimously recommends to the membership.
In addition, PIPSC joined 11 Ontario unions representing more than 250,000 provincial public sector employees in a coordinated Charter challenge against Bill 124. Should this challenge be successful, the tentative agreement provides the ability to re-open the collective agreement for negotiation of monetary items.
This agreement must now be ratified by the PIPSC SUN-RT membership. An electronic vote will be held in order to ratify this agreement. Eligible members in good standing will receive the voting instructions by email. In accordance with the group by-laws, regular members and retired members who ceased to be regular members on or after April 1, 2018, shall be eligible to vote.
The voting will be open for a period beginning April 14, 2021, and closing at 12:00 PM ETime on April 21, 2021. Please ensure your membership information is up to date.
You will find all the information below. It is important that you take the time to review everything prior to voting and prior to asking questions of the Bargaining Team.
Please review these documents:
A yes vote means: You are accepting all of the changes proposed in the tentative agreement. Those changes will take place at the date of the signing (except as otherwise noted). Retroactivity shall be paid within five (5) full pay periods following the date of ratification of the Memorandum of Settlement.
A no vote means: You reject the tentative agreement and instruct the PIPSC Bargaining Team to pursue further negotiations, with a high likelihood of heading to arbitration.
Your PIPSC SUN-RT Bargaining Team unanimously recommends the acceptance of this tentative agreement.,
