AAFC National OHS Policy Committee (NOHSPC)
The NOHSPC is an advisory forum in which management and employee representatives meet to exchange information, discuss OHS related matters and come to a consensus on the development and implementation of OHS policies, programs and preventive measures and work jointly towards the resolution of OHS issues. The NOHSPC also promotes a safe and healthy work environment for all employees of AAFC, while providing advice and guidance to the Deputy Minister and senior Departmental managers to ensure due diligence in pursuit of legislative compliance.
PIPSC recommends that all local PIPSC representatives on workplace OHS committees take basic steward training and be appointed a steward by PIPSC. (see steward application link https://www.pipsc.ca/labour-relations/consultation/aafc/aafc-stewards-recruitment-notice )
NOHSPC nomination information
PIPSC will be selecting a new member for NOHSPC in 2020 from motivated and experienced PIPSC representatives on local workplace OHS committees. Note that the employer provides travel funding and work time for the employee NOHSPC members to undertake travel and complete their duties for the committee. Four meetings per year are held in Ottawa, by videoconference, or at AAFC Research and Development Centres. For the NOHSPC applicants who would like to become a PIPSC representative on the committee, the AAFC PIPSC Consultation Team is requiring a commitment from the successful applicant to take basic steward training and undertake the process required to become appointed as a steward by PIPSC.
The NOHSPC Terms of Reference and past committee meeting minutes can be read from the AAFC website http://intranet.agr.gc.ca/agrisource/eng/human-resources/occupational-health-and-safety?id=1321562720661#gov
