Process for Application and Approval for PIPSC Training
Basic Steward Applications Process:
- Administrative staff prepares and sends notice of training and application with established deadline to apply to eligible applicants.
- Two weeks prior to the registration deadline, a reminder email is sent out to eligible candidates who have not yet applied.
- Administrative staff liaises with Training Committee Chairperson regarding the number of registrants for the session.
Applicants must be a steward or have sent their “Steward Application” for processing to the Steward Co-ordinator.
Basic Steward Screening and Approval Process:
- Regional Office Administrator prepares a list of eligible applicants and forwards it to the Regional Training Committee Chairperson for review and approval.
- If there are more than 20 applicants then priority will be given to distribution between departments, groups and geographical locations.
- If there are less than 20 applicants then Stewards eligible for a refresher may be invited to apply and a business case may be required.
- Stewards requesting a refresher course, who have met the three (3) year waiting period, may be placed on a waiting list as priority goes to new applicants.
- Stewards who have taken basic training within the last three (3) years will not be eligible.
- A final list may be determined in consultation with the regional professional staff (EROs).
- Regional Office Administrator notifies the eligible candidates that their application has been approved and provides ‘Confirmation of Registration’ as well as travel information and any administrative details.
- Regional Office Administrator sends an email to any candidates who were not selected to advise them that their names will be recorded on a waiting list and their applications may be approved should space become available.
- As cancellations occur, the vacant spaces are filled from the waiting list. The minimum period for replacements is normally two weeks prior to the course, after which time no more changes are made for administrative reasons.
Regional Labour School Application Process:
- Regional Office Administrator prepares notice of training and application with established deadline and it is e-mailed to stewards and posted on the Institute website.
- Applications are sent to the Regional Office and reviewed to ensure applicants are eligible to participate in the training.
- Two weeks prior to the application deadline, a reminder is sent out to eligible stewards who have not yet applied.
- Regional Office Administrator liaises with Regional Training Committee Chairperson regarding the progress of applications for the session.
New stewards may not be considered for Labour School until they have completed Basic Steward Training and have been acting as a steward for a 6 month period.
