Your AFS Bargaining Team met with the Employer May 30 to June 1 to continue negotiations to renew our collective agreement.
We discussed a number of outstanding issues and agreed on several items including:
- Enhancing family related leave with pay
- Accessing performance review files
- National Day for Truth & Reconciliation
- Maximum shifts and minimum periods between shifts
- Clarifying the earning of sick leave and vacation when on leave with pay
Both parties made several proposals to resolve ongoing issues around hours of work, including telework and flexible work hours. We continued to resist demands for concessions to clauses relating to your right to disconnect.
We have been fighting for years to convince our employer to recognize the impact on our members who lose a child through miscarriage or stillborn birth. Now is the time for the Treasury Board to give the mandate to our employer to allow full bereavement leave to our members who suffer such a loss. The difference between bereavement for the loss of a child, and bereavement for stillbirth is the child taking one breath of air.
During our April session we presented our comprehensive wage demands. During this round, our PIPSC economist presented a pay analysis demonstrating how comparable market salaries support our wage demands. We expect the employer to respond when we next meet from June 27 to 29.
We are making progress towards the renewal of our collective agreement and will continue this work until we complete a contract that includes fair pay raises for all of our AFS members.
To keep up to date on bargaining developments, please provide your non-work email to PIPSC. You can update your information here.
We also encourage our members to join our PIPSC-IPFPC AFS Group/Groupe VFS Facebook group.
