OPEN LETTER TO THE MEMBERS OF THE AFS 200 RENÉ-LÉVESQUE WEST SUB-GROUP
(Translated from French)
Sender: Doug Mason, AFS Group President
Jean Couillard, regional representative for the Québec Region AFS Group
The AFS group is committed to representing its members from coast to coast. To do this, we need a strong network of local sub-groups to represent our members at a local level. Currently, the AFS group oversees a network of 55 sub-groups, including the AFS 200 René-Lévesque Ouest sub-group. We're writing to you today because your sub-group needs your help. The AFS 200 René-Lévesque Ouest sub-group may soon have no members on the executive. PIPSC’s by-laws stipulate that a sub-group executive must have three members for the sub-group to continue to exist. If we don't get at least three volunteer members to sit on the executive, the AFS 200 René-Lévesque Ouest sub-group will disappear. This would leave a huge gap in local consultation and representation. Given the constant changes taking place, we must not lose sight of the need for consultation and representation with local management.
To become a member of the Executive, in accordance with the AFS Group bylaws, you must agree to become a PIPSC steward. When you become a steward, you receive training that enables you to represent members in the grievance procedure, and gives you steward immunity when you present employee concerns to management as part of a consultation process.
The AFS 200 René-Lévesque Ouest subgroup has benefited from strong, effective leadership, and it would be a huge loss to lose it now. We strongly encourage you to apply to become a steward and/or member of the sub-group’s executive. If you have any questions, please contact one of us.
