Candidate for Québec Regional Director

Pierre Potvin

(Retired member)

Dear Members,

My name is Pierre Potvin and I am running for the position of Quebec Director.

My recent retirement has given me a lot of time to reflect, and the current situation in our society has brought my union brothers and sisters to mind.

I am concerned about the workplace changes my members are facing (health measures, telework, etc.). I am also concerned about the impact the pandemic is having on my members’ mental health and work-life balance. How do we handle occupational health and safety issues when members are working remotely? How will mandatory vaccination work?

Changes in our work environments and in the Public Service’s workplace culture requires great adaptability on your part.

I’m here to help you!

For those of you who don’t know me well, I’d like to tell you about my union background. After 21 years of military service, I joined the federal public service in May 2005. I became a Steward in 2013. I realized that this was the best way for me to advocate for our members’ rights.

From February 2014 to May 2020, I represented our members on the Department of National Defence (DND) Union-Management Consultation Team.

In May 2014, I joined the Montérégie Branch Executive.

In November 2014, I helped found the CS Montérégie Sub-Group and was elected Vice-President. In April 2018, the members elected me President of the Sub-Group.

In February 2017, I participated in the founding of the Haut-Richelieu Branch and was elected Branch President.

In December 2018, I had the honour of being named Steward of the Year for the Quebec Region.

In March 2019, I represented PIPSC for the Quebec Region on an FTQ Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) committee.

In June 2020, I represented PIPSC on a national joint OHS committee for an occupational health and safety training project.

I am a firm believer in teamwork and pooling our strengths. I am committed to working with the Quebec Region Executive Committee, the PIPSC Board of Directors and all other PIPSC structures to ensure that the voice of Quebec—our VOICE—is heard.
