The event started at approximately 12:00 noon. Pizza was served. Introductions and acknowledgements were made to the 23 members assembled.
Randy Oomen, ITOMSG President, presented a PowerPoint deck that explained the Work Force Adjustment process in general. At the conclusion of this presentation many questions were asked and answered.
April Morrison gave an update on the WFA situation at IRCC, where 3,300 positions are to be cut over the next 3 years. April shared that the PSAC members will be impacted much more than the PIPSC members in the department. There are approximately 768 PIPSC members in IRCC. So far, 47 PIPSC members have received “affected” letters (compared with 1,100 PSAC members). This doesn’t mean 47 positions are to be cut, but rather 47 employees are being looked at concerning the (much smaller) number of positions to be cut. It was pointed out that there may be some contractors doing similar work who have not been let go first. It appears there are many employees in general, who would be willing to take a buyout payment to leave the government.
The remaining pizza was distributed, as well as ITOMSG and IT Group promotional material.
The Lunch n Learn formally concluded at approximately 13:30.
