RMG Elections 2018 - Richard Rice
As an RMG executive member, my current experience and accomplishments include:
- RMG Treasurer, managing its ongoing budget and financial expenditures
- Developed new promotion campaign for the Retired Members Guild, including a brochure “So You’re Retiring – What Now?”, being distributed nationwide
- Delivered RMG orientation presentations to pre-retirees
- Represented the RMG concerning Bill C-27 with members of Parliament, including meeting the Honourable Andrew Leslie, MP
My continued vision of the role for the retired members’ guild is:
- Pensions & Health Benefits – to ensure their continued integrity and improvement.
- Representation – through the core body of PIPSC, to ensure our rights and benefits continue to be protected, long after the transition from workplace to retirement.
- Networking – continue to engage other like-minded retirees in other associations and develop more liaisons for the exchange of ideas, united policy formulation and potential economic benefits through combined buying power.
- Recruitment – by bringing in past and pre-retirement members and to demonstrate the many benefits of continued PIPSC membership through the RMG.
- Participation –most importantly by stronger advocacy within PIPSC, to make the voice of the RMG members loud and clear, as the most rapidly growing sector of PIPSC.
- Support – to PIPSC bargaining or other committees, through mentorship, to harness the accrued knowledge and experience of our retired members.
I have over 20 years’ experience as a Steward with PIPSC serving as:
- Executive member of the Computer Systems (CS) group in Revenue Canada (Customs), Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
- Chairman of the CS sub group at CCRA for 2 consecutive terms.
- Member of PIPSC consultation teams of Union-Management Committees, at the national and local levels in Revenue Canada, CCRA and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
