The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, a national union representing over 70,000 professionals and scientists throughout Canada, requires a bilingual Communications Coordinator for its National Office in Ottawa.

What can I expect to do in this role?
Under the supervision of the Director of Public Affairs and Member Services and the functional supervision of the Team Lead, Education and PIPSC Connect (EPC), the Communications Coordinator supports the development and execution of communications strategies that enhance the Institute's image, promote its mission, and engage members. This role includes creating, editing and distributing content across multiple platforms. The Communications Coordinator plays an important role in ensuring coordination in the implementation of digital communications strategies.
Primary responsibilities:
- Coordinates the design, production, translation, printing and publishing of communications and graphic design products.
- Assists in writing and building digital communications products including emails, newsletters, social media posts, web forms, etc.
- Copy-edits and proofreads communications products for internal and external audiences.
- Works with other team members to create, calendar, email content, and communication content promoting announcements, programs and engagement opportunities.
- Collaborates with other team members, creates and implements digital/social media ads to build a wide audience of members and external stakeholders.
- Provides regular reports on ad performance.
- Triages and responds to member inquiries and requests from various channels; promotes engagement and audience growth on digital platforms.
- Tracks and analyzes social media and paid advertisement metrics.
- Assists in setting and ensuring key performance indicators (KPIs) are met and creates internal reports on fulfillment of goals. Recommends improvements and enhancements to future work.
- Participates in the organization of the communication team projects and products including maintaining filing systems, databases and archives.
- Assist with the research and reviews the latest developments in engagement strategies, email best practices, and analytics.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary teams assigned to special projects and works collaboratively with staff, elected officials and others.
- May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
Education:
- Completed a two (2) or three (3) year community college program in Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Business or Communications
- One (1) to three (3) years of progressive and related experience in the communications’ environment and or in the implementation of the communication plan, writing, editing, and working with web, social media and associated systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language requirement:
- Fluency in both official languages (French and English) is required
Skills and experience required:
- Knowledge of best practices in digital writing and communication.
- Ability to assist in the development of digital content and engagement opportunities for a variety of audiences.
- Ability to report and clearly communicate results to the team and suggest methods to increase engagement.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in both French and English
- Flexibility and ability to multi-task with continually changing timelines and priorities.
- Excellent time management, organizational skills and is process oriented and efficient.
- Interest in the latest developments in web, news, and social media.
Compensation Package
- Salary Range: $65,679 to $82,098(G3)

This unionized position is open to all interested parties. Preference will be granted in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the IAM local 3011 bargaining unit.
