Special General Meeting of PIPSC Members on July 16, 2019
Our collective agreement expired on June 30, 2018. Given the agreement reached at the central bargaining table (https://www.pipsc.ca/labour-relations/collective-bargaining/central-table-tentative-agreement) and the federal election to be held on October 21, which defers any possibility of bargaining in the next several months, your team has chosen to try to quickly reach a tentative agreement with the employer. Bargaining involves a limited list of topics. The agreement must be ratified by July 30, 2019. If not, it cannot be approved by Treasury Board.
Should an agreement be reached with the NFB, in order to adhere to this tight schedule, we will ask you to vote on the tentative agreement electronically between July 15 and 26.
The gains made at the central table mainly concern the salary increase, a financial penalty due to late implementation of the collective agreement, additional financial penalties for other implementation delays, enhancement of parental leave, caregiving leave, a new domestic violence leave, and improvements to harassment policies.
The gains we are seeking locally include an additional salary adjustment and a broader definition of family. For the past several years, we have been asking that employees at level 8 or higher be able to work overtime – payable in cash. The agreement has not yet been finalized but we will present it at the meeting and, if possible, make it available on the PIPSC website beforehand.
We are counting on your vote and your attendance at the meeting so that the negotiations can be promptly settled to everyone’s satisfaction. The meeting will take place from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Pierre-Perrault Theatre.
