Lunar New Year is celebrated by millions of workers across the world, including many members of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tibetan, Mongolian, and other Asian communities here in the National Capital Region.

Asian workers have long contributed to the strength of our public service and broader labour movement in the NCR — as frontline employees, professionals, stewards, activists, and leaders. Their labour, advocacy, and community leadership have helped advance fair wages, safer workplaces, equity initiatives, and stronger public institutions.

From challenging systemic racism and barriers to promotion, to strengthening equity-seeking networks and supporting collective action, Asian workers continue to play a vital role in building more just and inclusive workplaces.

A labour movement committed to equity must do more than acknowledge diversity — it must recognize cultural observances, confront anti-Asian racism, and ensure fair access to opportunities, accommodation, and leadership for Asian workers at every level.

As we mark Lunar New Year, we recognize and thank Asian workers in the NCR for their ongoing contributions to our workplaces, our unions, and our collective strength.
