Your bargaining Team met with the Employer during the last week of May 2019. A number of days of negotiations were scheduled, yet talks were very limited and ended on Tuesday night, May 28. The Team was hopeful that the employer would return with a reasonable counter offer.

May 28 starts the 3rd and last scheduled session of bargaining before the writ is dropped for the federal election. It is critical CS members get out to show support for the bargaining team, to show to Treasury Board that the Group stands united. The message is clear;

NOVEMBER 8 and 9, 2019 – PIPSC AGM This year's AGM will be held November 8 and 9 at the Hilton Lac Leamy. The AGM is a gathering of the full membership of PIPSC as represented by delegates whose purpose is to review and set the policy direction of the Institute.

Your Bargaining team met from April 16 to April 18, 2019. All of the Group’s proposals were presented and explained in detail. The Bargaining team’s resolve is stronger than ever to continue the fight for improving Articles impacted by recruitment and retention including pay. Ensuring the hiring and retaining of CS members with competitive salaries remains the key objective.

On March 11, 1969, the Professional Institute of the Public Service was certified as the bargaining agent for the CS Group by the Public Service Staff Relations Board with less than 1000 members in the group.

The CS Group broke new ground in 1991 when it became the first PIPSC group of more than 4,000 members to go on strike and to push for the development of a Strike Fund. They received much attention from national media, but were ordered back to work and had a settlement imposed.

First I would like to say that I am very pleased to see the return of the CS Group newsletter. The Group has relied upon individual postings, notices, surveys and bargaining updates in CS Bytes over the past few years. We hope to continue with timely announcements and information while providing a broader overview and knowledge pieces in regularly published newsletters.

The Elections Committee is requesting nominations for these positions. Such nominations must include the candidate’s name (printed) and signature accepting the nomination, as well as the position for which the candidate is being nominated. Nominations must also include the name and signature of at least three (3) members of the CS Group.

Here we are together again at the bargaining table. For some of us this is a return and for others it is the beginning of a new experience. In any case, it is a serious commitment to represent CS Group members collectively in the form of bargaining, by promoting the rights and interests of members and by vigorously safeguarding professional standards.

On Thursday, January 10, 2019 representatives from your Bargaining Team - Robert Tellier, Stan Buday, Dean Corda, and Eva Henshaw with Denise Doherty (PIPSC negotiator) - met with Treasury Board to exchange proposals for the renewal of the collective agreement, which expired December 21, 2018.

Dear Members: On June 2, 2018, the Treasury Board published the new definition of the Information Technology (IT) Occupational Group, replacing the current definition of the Computer Systems (CS) Group, in the Canada Gazette.
