Fighting for the retirement security of its members, and for all Canadians, is a top priority for the Institute. I would like to update you on where we stand on this critical issue at this time.

We are pleased to inform you that PIPSC has resumed work on the grievances submitted by members in the spring of 2016. From November 2018 through July 2019 PIPSC Classification Specialists will be building the cases for the job content grievances in Science and Operations Branches and presenting them to the CFIA.

Prior to 1929, women in Canada were not considered "persons” under the law. On October 18, 1929, the “Famous Five” took the case to the highest court of appeal where it was decided to include women as "persons". This gave women the right to be appointed to the Senate and paved the way for increased participation in public and political life.
