Your bargaining team was back at the negotiating table on November 9, 10 and 11 with the help of a mediator.

The parties signed off a number of administrative changes and updates, including adding the Truth and Reconciliation Day to company holidays, funding for career and professional development, provisions for breaks, and updating the Workforce Adjustment Process.

Progress was slow and unfortunately the following issues have yet to be resolved: pay, remote work, contractors performing the work of bargaining unit employees, and leave provisions. These issues will be the focus of the next round of mediation set for November 29 through December 1, 2021.

On the pensions front, you will soon be receiving an invitation to vote on which pension plan you would like your CRPEG executive to continue to explore. Another vote will take place to ratify moving our pensions from the Canadian Energy and Related Industries (CERi) plan to a new plan.

Finally, we are still looking for volunteers to join a dynamic team of CRPEG members to help show support for our bargaining team and priorities. Some of the planned activities are a coffee & donut member appreciation day, and calling colleagues to provide bargaining updates. Other ideas are welcome! If you’d like to join this team, please email crpeg_executive@pipsc.ca.

Thank you and in solidarity,

Jonathan Fitzpatrick, PIPSC
