Hello everyone,

Since joining PIPSC's Social Health Group Executive as the Social Work representative a few months ago, I have now attended two SH group meetings and more recently, the AGM on 10 June in Ottawa.

This initiation period has been a whirlwind of learning. I am very glad to report that I am not only amongst friends with our colleagues from the other 8 professional groups that form our executive, but also amongst highly skilled, dedicated and hard working people who truly have all of our best interests to heart.

June is National Aboriginal History month and June 21st, National Aboriginal Day, is a special moment to celebrate First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada.

The Institute encourages its members to enjoy the celebrations of Inuit, Métis and First Nations cultures, contributions, and accomplishments on this day. We represent Inuit, Métis, and First Nations women and men in scientific, professional and many other occupations. In pursuit of ensuring fair employment relations for the benefit of all its members, the Institute promotes equitable hiring practices, non-discrimination, and accommodation in federal public sector workplaces.

While National Aboriginal Day celebrations help to increase visibility, raising the bar with respect to Aboriginal inclusiveness in the public service and the labour market demands everyone's involvement, including government.

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada encourages all its members to join in celebrating with our Aboriginal members their diversity, rich cultural heritage, and to salute them for their notable service to Canada.

Aboriginal Day Live 2017

Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) marks this year with the largest celebration of National Aboriginal Day in Canada’s history, as it hosts celebrations in eight cities across the country: Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Yellowknife, Edmonton and Vancouver.
