Notice of the 76th Prairie/NWT Regional Council
DATE: May 24 and 25, 2019
LOCATION: Delta Hotel ;Winnipeg, Manitoba
The 76th Prairie/NWT Regional Council (PRC) will be two (2) days starting on Friday, May 24 and continuing all day Saturday, May 25, 2019.
If you are interested in attending the PRC, please contact your Branch President by April 1, 2019.
Every day, nurses and health care workers across Canada start their shifts knowing they may face violence on the job, and it’s only getting worse.
A national poll found that 61% of nurses have had a serious problem with some form of violence in the past 12 months, and two thirds (66%) considered leaving their job. Meanwhile, the number of violence-related lost-time claims for frontline health care workers has increased by almost 66% over the past decade, three times the rate of increase for police and correctional service officers combined.
This crisis must stop. Violence is NOT part of the job.
That’s why Canada’s nurses, including our members, have joined with MP and former emergency room doctor Doug Eyolfson to launch a House of Commons Petition calling for a national plan of action to stop violence against health care workers.

Please support our nurses and health care workers, sign now.
It only takes three minutes to sign your name. There are only 2 weeks left to sign and share this petition (Deadline Feb 20, 2019).

Ottawa Centreville Branch Family Get Together and Sick of Winter Event
Saturday, March 16, 2019
Would you like to spend quality time with your spouse and kids in a hot, sunny tropical paradise? Well, your Ottawa Centreville Branch Executive is delighted to offer you the next best thing. All OCB members, their spouse/partner and children are cordially invited to participate in a fun-filled evening of merriment and refreshments at the Ogilvie Splash Wave Pool located on Ogilvie Road.
The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) mourns the death of a true friend and supporter, former Ottawa-Centre MP Paul Dewar, who died of brain cancer at the age of 56 on February 6, 2019.
As MP between 2006 and 2015 for a riding with one of the highest concentrations of federal employees, Paul supported federal scientists in their fight for the right to speak and was an outspoken advocate for human rights, labour, strong community, and youth – in particular, through the recent establishment of Youth Action Now, an organization dedicated to “creating a world that is fair, inclusive and sustainable.”
In memory of Paul’s contributions to our community, PIPSC has made a donation to Youth Action Now.
PIPSC extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends.
My name is Susan Evans, President of PIPSC, ACOA, National Consultation Team. This position was previously held by David Chu of Halifax. We are currently soliciting a PIPSC representative on the PEI and Tourism Regional OHS Committee in accordance with Section 135.1 of the Canada Labour Code, Part II.
